"WEIRD. When I move, that baby on the screen moves, too."

**So just in case this does not make any sense, I recorded
this video on my laptop. When I record that way, she can see
herself live on the screen while it records. That's why she
doesn't quite understand what's going on.
So. Funny.

She's just now entering "The Mirror Stage." Well, it begins at about 6 months when babies can recognize themselves in the mirror but don't associate their reflection with being "me." Instead, they tend to feel rivalry for their own image because they see it as another person. However, when they get older, right around Hallie's age, in fact, they start to identify their reflection with the idea that "Hey, this is me." They learn that they (the subject) are the same as their reflection (the image in the mirror/on the screen).

In more complex Lacanian-Freudian terms, it means she's learning to become her own little person and will rely less on her parents in the future.

So what you're saying is that it's one step closer to the teen years.
